False Start
02:32
|
|||
All that wandering, endless pondering back and forth
a dot upon the moor in a vast expanse.
All that time spent, windows open to the light
mesmerized by birds in flight.
Every move is a stepping stone
and another way back home
I’m asking for one last show of hearts
before calling it a false start.
Pauper poet, you showed us how it’s done
a solitary sun in a crowded sky.
Of abundance, is it all that wonderful?
can it describe a summer’s day?
Every move is a stepping stone
and another way back home
I’m asking for one last show of hearts
before calling it a false start.

Tried Too Hard
03:27
|
|||
In the quiet of the morning I can see the error of my ways
Somehow the dawn distills it down to black and white
I cast a look out at the yard as the past comes
flooding in like rain, forgotten ’til today.
If I only had a dollar for each time I didn’t think twice
I’d be a wealthy woman now but what’s the point
of wishing for a second chance I’d likely
do it all again, beginning to end
It’s faded now but there are remnants of the rise and fall
I waited there but now I’m wondering what for
I tried too hard, too hard
I tried for what, for what

Does It Matter
03:26
|
|||
does it matter what we say
today or yesterday
to each other
does it really matter
isn’t it a shame
that these places have faces
that can’t be erased
isnt’ it a shame
does it matter where we go
together or alone,
now that’s it’s over
does it really matter
is there any doubt
that those things we remember
will keep looking better
is there any doubt
it’s merely air moving through space
looking for a resting place
so does it matter anyway

Understand
03:25
|
|||
you don’t need to understand
don’t need to know what it’s about
so don’t bother listening
don’t try and figure this one out
words have a mind of their own
and you know i know you well
i know you’ll really want to try
but for once just leave it be
don’t bother listening this time
we had a life of our own
but now it’s over and
done forever or so it seems
so don’t bother trying to
understand it if you please
you have a life of your own
and that’s how it’s gonna be
as lonely as it sounds
so don’t try to understand
or try and wrestle this one down
words have a mind of their own
and you know they can be cruel
they can be reckless or vague
so don’t bother listening
just turn and walk away

When You Come Through
04:52
|
|||
when you come through this time I will light a fire
when you come through this time it may be winter
everything stripped of colour everything bare
so pack your camera cause i know you’ll find some beauty there
When you come through this time i will light a fire
when you come through this time will you stay a little longer
Our neighbour to the right said he sings along
when you sit on our porch playing all those old songs
When you come through
When you come through this time I will light a fire
when you come through this time it will have been a while
Ceremony can be the talk of town
but celebration does it’s best to stick around
When you come through
When you come through
we might say a lot or maybe just a little.
But we’lll leave nothing to show
no trace of tired embers
that we tried to coax
as it became December
and while everything in sight disappears in smoke
we’ll pour another drink, and tell another joke
When you come through

Dear City
04:50
|
|||
Upon waking I barely hear you breathing
But make no mistake you're already seething
I venture to say that we've become friends
No not lovers, but perhaps that's how it will end
'cause that's one hell of a beautiful sky
There's a light that is hard to explain
no sign of sunshine and none of rain
A body inhales while another implodes
Nothing to say but that's how it goes
But that's one hell of a beautiful sky
yeah that's one hell of a beautiful sky
and your incandescent hum is a sign
Another angle another way of seeing
I can't turn away it's keeping me breathing
Holding me fast like the eye of a storm
kinetic attraction from which I can't turn
And that's one hell of a beautiful sky
yeah, that's one hell of a beautiful sky

Peace of Mind
03:37
|
|||
Enough with complicated, why don’t we let it rest
I’m not sure it was fated, maybe circumstance
But nevertheless
nevertheless think I’ll pass
There are tired faces that shine despite
the visible traces that mark a life
That make their home
That make their home where they belong
Go where you are wanted and don’t look back
Where there are open arms and a welcome mat
Where you can find peace of mind

The Real Shade Toronto, Ontario
The Real Shade is a Toronto-based indie-pop band.
It was formed in 2007 when long-time
side woman Jane Gowan (Spygirl, Neins Circa, Belinda Bruce) teamed up with bassist Mary Harmer.
What started as a lo-fi rock ’n roll outfit evolved into a project that explored other styles, most notably Americana and Indie Folk.
