Lost 04:49
I’m gonna open a brand new track and get it all down I’m gonna wear my heart on my sleeve all over town I’m gonna carry a weight too heavy for ten strong men I’m gonna make mistakes and then follow them up with amends I might look like i’m lost, but believe me I’m not I’m gonna follow the trail wherever it chooses to go even a hundred times or more from coast to coast I’m gonna carry a book of stories regarding the past and a reminder of someone I love in a photograph I might look like i’m lost, but believe me I’m not I’m gonna tape up the microphone and try it again I’m gonna figure all of it out in the end I might look like i’m lost but believe me I’m not

Jericho 04:20
The streetlights thin out I breathe in then out... I’ll pass the park at Jericho turn on to the low road almost a hairpin, then the shoreline’s revealing I know it’s late but I’m awake and this road is so familiar I could drive it in my sleep with the moon as my passenger Freedom is believing this solitary feeling is bringing me around The streetlights thin out... Up the hill into the trees dark becoming darker The road’s shadowing the curve of the Mighty Fraser Freedom is believing this solitary feeling is bringing me around The streetlights thin out...

All the dreamers stand in the shadows or take their seat on the sidelines where the sun searches for secret passageways, alleys of the mind All inventions start as a notion a quiet hint of a shadow seeking out radiance in corners where the daylight doesn’t go In cracks and crevices dwells a metamorphosis in cracks and crevices dwells a metamorphosis So an idea becomes a living thing for everyone to revel in.

Self Starter 03:31
Sometimes it seems we’re floating in outer space trying to hang on but getting pulled away Spinning on a planet in a galaxy we quiet our worries with make believe But I can’t do what I’m supposed to do. I’m treading water I brush my hair, I tie my shoes I’m a self starter But there’s something in the way of victory that’s got my number Gotta shake it off, gotta lose that thing before it drags me under ‘cause I’m afraid that I might let you down or leave you in a situation without a net, without a way out I read somewhere that we are mere grains of sand gazing up in wonder while the universe expands We live inside buildings looking to the out of doors for clues on how to gather up all the shooting stars ‘cause I’m afraid that I might let you down or leave you in a situation without a net, without a way out
5.
Too Far Gone 03:35
There’s something at the bottom of my glass that’s not me looking up that’s not me staring back It could be a reflection of the light or something I dreamed up while sitting here tonight It could be trouble or a second chance but I’m too far gone to tell the difference I waited at the corner for your face your charmingly crooked and familiar gait I waited til the streetlights all came on then I turned around, turned and I went home It could be trouble or a second chance but we're too far gone to tell the difference And how can we stay in this state of mind when we know we’re just wasting time We’re just wasting time It could be trouble or a second chance but we're too far gone to tell the difference There’s something in the corner of my mind smoke-filled, crystaline, and from another time I almost see it then it goes away crucial or ephemeral, impossible to say It could be trouble or a second chance but I’m too far gone to tell the difference

Rally Cry 03:27
Do you feel inclined to wander ramble or drift away into a blue horizon out among the reveries Can you pioneer a vision in a field far off the grid Incite a rally cry for the way it could have been The universe rains ideas into our noisy heads But we don’t know what to make of all of it Can we recreate a feeling from a fleeting glimpse Capture the sound and colour of an experience Is the infinite sky pulling at the center of your chest As it instills a sense of our insignificance The universe rains ideas into our noisy heads But we don’t know what to make of all of it

Algonquin 02:56
You can’t put enough coffee in this body today the fog is taking its time lifting the winter was mean, left us all half asleep but now i’m waking. And I’m thinking it might be time to take flight and go somewhere we’ve never been Because I’ve heard of a place, deep in the park filled with wild and wonderful things (So let’s go, let’s go, down the road, you and me) Yeah I’ve heard of a place that legend it says is shrouded in mystery And all that remains for those who pass by is a million shades of green (So let’s go, let’s go, down the road, you and me) And I’m thinking it might be time to take flight and go somewhere we’ve never seen ‘cause I’ve heard of a place, deep in the park filled with wild and wonderful things

Survivor 03:35
How are you still standing, how did you even get up today Everyone is waiting for the lights to come up on the stage Everyone loves a survivor, everybody loves an underdog Everyone is fervently rooting for you with their fingers crossed To walk out of the door and into the morning. Take your loved one by the hand. Hold her tight and dance in the garden, From now until the end. You look tired and you look weary. You could use a cup of tea. Life has been just you and them and nothing so far has come in between You seem more than merely lonely, like something’s eating at your soul Everybody wants a piece, or maybe a little more Everyone loves a survivor, everybody loves an underdog Everyone is fervently rooting for you with their fingers crossed To walk out of the door and into the morning. Take your loved one by the hand Hold her tight and dance in the garden From now until the very end, the end of absolutely everything

Moving Gaze 05:06
Fixing for adventure I wander out of doors into territories where I’ve never been before I mirror what i’m given by the miracle of sight and immortalize the minutes in black and white The faces tell the stories, I barely do a thing a simple conversation is Shakespearian I am but a shadow when I focus in and snap at sunlight in the smoke of cigarettes I could have been a mariner or troubadour the leader of an expedition way up north I toyed with the idea of outer space and how without gravity, I might stay in place I fall into a pattern, my feet in sturdy shoes I’m pulled into the flow of the multitudes A happy child reaches both arms in the air Then just around the corner is a different kind of theatre There’s poetry concealed in every moving gaze in any interaction there is nothing commonplace There’s sentimental value In the passing of a cup in forests made of trees that are barely standing up. I could have been a mariner or troubadour the leader of an expedition way up north I toyed with the idea of outer space and how, without gravity, I might stay in place

The Mines 03:25
Hit it with the solder, turn up the flame Out here in the mines we’ve got it made We’ll stoke the fire then free the land ‘cause anything’s possible from where we stand We thrive upon the sharp inhale of winter’s dawn anticipate the cold embrace, that shot of oxygen We rise at daylight’s meagre toll and wait for it to take hold We know how it goes We generate shadows in the light under an infinite, impartial sky And wake abruptly in our beds When trouble and doubt fill our heads And dream of blissful faces pointed at the sun while pleading quietly for better days to come for we have witnessed crooked deals handshakes and then appeals We know how it feels So hit it with the solder, turn up the flame out here in the mines we’ve got it made.

about

These ten moving songs explore our frontiers, both personal and geographic. We follow street photographer Vivian Maier, landscape painter Tom Thomson and others "fixing for adventure", as they roam from the mighty Fraser River to outer space to roads so familiar we could drive them in our sleep. And the music that takes us on these journeys is unvarnished but warm and rich in love, wisdom and hope. —Tim Falconer
